Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Welcome back to our first newsletter for the term!  I hope that you enjoyed some quality family time over the holiday period, and are looking forward to the term ahead.

Each term, principals from our Alpine and Towong Network of Schools, meet to participate in professional learning, and share data and plan for school improvement. Today, our school hosted the Term 2 meeting and, during the day, there was an opportunity for principals to visit classrooms and experience our lovely school.

Congratulations to all students on their participation and achievement at yesterday's Athletics Sports!  We were really impressed by the behaviour of our students and their participation in events.  On behalf of all the students, I would like to extend my thanks to Steph for her organisation and to Dave and our 3-6 staff for their support.  A big shout out also to our parent volunteers, who came to help out, and to the staff and volunteers from Falls Creek, Tawonga and Dederang Primary Schools.  As a result of these combined efforts, our students all enjoyed a great day of Athletics competition. Our thanks also to Amanda and Will and the team at Farm to Fork Butchery, for their support with our BBQ.  The sausages were delicious!

Following the sports, students in Prep-6 were joined by Falls Creek PS for a special Musica Viva incursion, Rhythm Works. Musical duo, Elijah and Kevin presented a percussion performance to show our students how to create visual images through music.  The performance involved lots of student participation and provided a wonderful opportunity to reinforce and apply students' learning in music.  Many thanks to Emily for her organisation of this show and congratulations to all students on their participation and audience skills!

Last Friday, our SRC attended the ANZAC Day ceremony, to lay a wreath on behalf of our school community.  Many thanks to these students, their families, staff and the wider community for your attendance at this event.  As in previous years, it was also lovely to hear some of our former students, Zoe and Chalisa, speaking at the ceremony and sharing their personal reflections.

Over the weekend, some finishing touches were added to the new pergola.  Many thanks to our donors, and to Lucy and Jarrod for their time in erecting the pergola and creating a new space for students. The grape vines have already made great growth over the season, so it won't be long before this is a shady haven, in which to sit during summer or bask in the winter sun!
