Year 7 Camp

On Tuesday 22nd of April, the Year 7s went on camp to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. On the way to the resort, we stopped for lunch at San Remo Beach. As we were having our break, we stopped to watch the pelicans having their feeding time. We also saw some marine life at the San Remo Jetty. After the pelican feeding session was over, we crossed the bridge to Phillip Island.

When we came out of our bus, we were directed to a movie room where we were given an introduction for the Phillip Island Adventure Resort and where we could go or not go. After that, we were given the opportunity to move our bags into our assigned cabins and get ready for our first activity, which for my group, was canoeing! It was so fun learning how to paddle with the oar and getting a mini shower under the huge water sprinkler. When the hour had passed, all the Year 7s grouped up again for afternoon tea. The kitchen staff had prepared a delicious ANZAC slice and some fruit for us to eat and then we were off to our next activity which was actually playing some games at the basketball court with all Year 7s there. We played Pac-man, GAGA ball and then we were given free time. When dinner rolled around, we lined up in groups and were then sent into the dining room. For dinner we were given some pasta with tomato sauce and for dessert we got chocolate mousse. Our drink for that meal was green cordial. After dinner we grabbed supplies for our bags and all the Year 7s went on a large night walk. We saw quite a few wallabies, bull ants and bats! When we got back to our part of the resort, it was about 9pm meaning that we had to go to our cabins for bed.

The next morning, everyone headed off to line up in groups outside of the dining room for breakfast. When we sat down in our seats, we were given the options for breakfast which were toast and some spreads or some cereal with milk. And for our drink we had orange juice. After that, we continued our next 2 rotations which for my group were raft making and then high ropes. Although in between, we were given some morning tea which was hot chocolate and some fruit! After those two rotations, we were sent once again to the dining room, to eat lunch. For lunch, we were given burgers and green cordial for our drinks. It was very yummy and personally my favourite meal of the whole camp! After lunch, we were sent to 2 more of our rotations. For me, they were the Giant Swing and Bushman’s Breakfast. The Giant Swing was so crazy! You would be attached to a harness and then your group would pull you on a rope to the height you wanted to go on. The highest point was 18 meters high! Although it looked too scary and overwhelming for me so I never went on it. But it was so cool watching everyone go on the swing and was very fun being able to pull on the rope. Bushman’s Breakfast was also pretty cool, but I think I inhaled too much smoke. Our job was to make a fire with hot coal and sticks and then cook pancakes over it. By the time both rotations were finished, everyone was covered in ash so we all headed back to our cabins to shower. All Year 7s met up again for dinner at about 6pm. We were given some chicken tenders with veggies. And for our drink we were given some tasty cordial. And for dessert we got berry sorbet! The best part about that day was probably our movie night after dinner. We had brought some snacks from home and also got some popcorn from the teachers. The movie we watched was “Mufasa”. Most people were pretty tired from the day though, so they ended up falling asleep! After the movie was finished, everyone headed off to their cabins to get ready for bed.

On our final morning at the Phillip Island Camp Resort, everyone headed to the dining room after packing our bags for home, for some toast and cereal for breakfast with some orange juice. At the end of breakfast, we all thanked the kitchen staff for all of our lovely meals and headed off to our last 2 rotations. For my group, we had Team Rescue and Archery. Team Rescue was so cool and really got our group actually talking altogether. Our job was to bring a dummy on a stretcher across a wooden obstacle course. We eventually got the team across but had to restart a few times. Personally, Team Rescue was one of my favourite activities at the camp. Once both rotations were finished, everyone got onto the buses and to the school we came! Of course we got to stop at a beach for lunch and then we continued our journey home.

Camp was such a lovely experience and everyone looked so happy. I hope futureYear 7s also enjoy school camp and have a lovely time.

Thanks to Miss Sherry as well for organising the camp. And thanks to all the teachers who left their families to look after us.
