Towards the end of Term 2, Dandenong High School hosted a Subject Expo for the Year 10 students. This event was designed to support them in making informed and thoughtful decisions about their future pathways, whether they choose to pursue VCE or VPC. The expo proved to be a highly valuable experience, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with subject teachers, who provided insights into course content and expectations. Equally important, students were also able to hear firsthand from their peers currently enrolled in those subjects, gaining practical perspectives on workload, assessments, and personal experiences.
For many students, this expo was also their first introduction to the Careers Team—an essential step as they begin to explore post-school options. Establishing this connection early is key, as students will work closely with the Careers Team throughout their senior years to discuss goals, university pathways, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
For students interested in more hands-on learning, the expo also featured VET stalls. These stalls provided information on subjects that lead to industry-recognised certifications, offering a practical pathway for those seeking to gain skills that are directly aligned with future careers.
Overall, this year’s Subject Expo was an overwhelming success, surpassing expectations in both its organisation and impact. The event saw high levels of student participation, with many students expressing excitement about the opportunity to explore their future pathways. Teachers and students alike appreciated how well the event was run, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone could gain valuable insights.
Looking ahead, the Subject Expo has laid a strong foundation for our students as they approach their senior years. The Careers Team, along with our dedicated teachers, will continue to offer guidance and support to ensure that all students feel confident and prepared as they make decisions about their future educational and career pathways.

On Tuesday May 6th we held our Careers Expo. The expo showcased close to 40 providers across many different industries. Students in years 9-12 attended the expo throughout the school day where they were able to connect with providers and learn about each industry.
In attendance were tertiary providers representing the TAFE and University sectors, apprenticeship providers, ADF and first responders, the arts, sport institutes, travel and work opportunities overseas, local industries such as employment agencies, mental health and youth services, recreation organisations, along with our school well-being and VET team.
This expo was designed to showcase a range of opportunities available to students for their future. We know that each young person has their unique skill set and area of interest and we wanted to cater for as many options as possible. For many of our students, thinking about life after school can be daunting and it’s ok to not know what they want to do, or where they want to go. What is important is that students are exposed to all that is possible so they can discover what is available to them and make informed decisions.
Since Tuesday we have had several students comment on how much they benefited from attending the expo and are motivated about continuing to research their preferred career pathway.
We encourage students to connect with the Careers team in Jacaranda, where we can provide up to date and accurate information about career pathways options. This includes subject selection. There are many myths about subjects required for certain courses, and we want students to have accurate information.
Thank you to all who attended the 2025 Careers Expo and made this event possible.
