From the Principal

Welcome back to Term 2, especially to those of you who have recently joined our community. It has been an extremely positive start, and I have very much enjoyed interacting with students from across the Houses.

One of the most significant events so far was our ANZAC Day Assembly, a solemn and respectful occasion that brought our school together in remembrance. We were honoured to welcome special guests, including Mark Osbourne, Secretary of the Dandenong Cranbourne RSL; Greta Jungwirth, President of the Ex-Students Association; and the Honourable Gabrielle Williams, Minister for Transport and MP for Dandenong, who shared the ANZAC story. All our visitors expressed how impressed they were by the dignity and respect our students showed throughout the ceremony and identified the highlight as being the quality and authenticity of the speeches delivered by our two School Captains. Mridula and Praneet also represented Dandenong High School at the Pillars of Freedom on ANZAC Day itself, where they read the Ode of Remembrance. I was very proud of how our students embraced the importance of this national day.

Our Year 7 students had an unforgettable time at camp, where they enjoyed a range of activities designed to build friendships, confidence and teamwork. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another and stepping out of their comfort zones as they tackled everything from high ropes to canoeing. The camp has set a fantastic tone for the rest of the year, and we’ve already seen the new friendships and positive mindsets flowing back into the classroom.

Another highlight of the term so far was the Careers Expo, which saw students from all year levels engaging with exhibitors from universities, TAFEs, industry and local businesses. This invaluable opportunity helped many begin thinking about their future pathways and provided great insight into options available beyond school. The timing couldn’t be better as students begin preparing for course counselling and subject selection later this term.

Looking ahead, excitement is building for our much-anticipated House Chorales competition. Students are about to commence rehearsing, and as always, there will be a buzz of friendly competition in the air over the next few weeks. This event is always a favourite in our school calendar, and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 24 June in the audience to support your House choir.

Thank you for your continued support, and I encourage you to read through this latest edition of our Newsletter to see the other amazing things that are happening across our school.
