Year 2/3

Science Spotlight: Investigating Materials and Their Properties

This term in science, our Year 2/3 students have been learning all about materials and their properties. Through hands-on investigations and critical thinking tasks, they’ve explored how different materials behave and why certain materials are suited to specific purposes.

One of the most engaging activities involved testing the face masks used at school to see if they met recommended government standards. Students examined features such as breathability, filtration layers, water resistance, and durability. They discussed why these properties are important in keeping people safe and how science helps us make informed choices about everyday products.

This activity not only strengthened their understanding of scientific concepts but also encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, and real-world thinking. It’s been fantastic to see how engaged the students have been while applying their learning to meaningful, practical investigations.

We’re proud of the thoughtful questions and collaborative teamwork our young scientists have demonstrated and look forward to exploring more exciting topics in the weeks ahead.
