Level 3

Literacy
In Writing, students have been exploring the features of persuasive texts. They've particularly enjoyed researching and forming opinions on the question: Should animals be kept in zoos? This topic sparked rich discussions and thoughtful arguments, as students considered both sides before writing. They learned how to structure their ideas clearly, use persuasive language, and support their points with reasons and evidence.
In Reading, our focus has been on inferencing and summarising. Students have been practicing how to read between the lines, especially when looking at pictures or exploring characters’ emotions. We’ve used images and short texts to prompt thinking about what characters might be feeling and why. To support summarising, students have been using the “Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then” strategy. This has helped them identify the key parts of a story and express them in a clear, concise way.
Mathematics
In Maths, we’ve been investigating measurement. Students explored different units of measurement, including centimetres, metres, and kilograms. A big focus was on estimating before measuring — helping students practice making informed guesses and then checking their thinking. We used everyday objects and fun challenges to measure and compare lengths, heights, and capacities. Students are beginning to build stronger confidence in selecting appropriate units and tools for measurement tasks.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, our big idea is focused on the concepts of ethics and morals. We began with a See–Think–Wonder routine based on a thought-provoking image, which led to deep discussions around fairness, choices, and the impact of actions. Students noticed and explored a wide range of ideas — some subtle, others quite powerful. It’s been inspiring to see how thoughtfully they can reflect on complex ideas, and how willing they are to listen to different perspectives. This unit is helping students grow their critical thinking and empathy as we continue to ask: What is the right thing to do, and why?
