Level 1

Literacy
This term we have been focussing on persuasives in Writing, while connecting to our Inquiry topic of 'Heroes and Villians'. In Reading, we have been identifying the differences between Fiction and Non-Fiction, while reading a variety of fairy tales such as 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Students then engaged in discussions and a variety of tasks around right and wrong choices made by the characters.
Inquiry
Last week in Inquiry, after reading 'The Three Little Pigs', we built the pigs' homes out of paper straws, sticks and Lego. This was a great STEM challenge, that reinforced our understanding of the story and encouraged teamwork. The students worked together to build very sturdy houses, that even the 'wolves' couldn't blow down!
Maths
This term we have been focusing on Addition and Subtraction. We have been learning a variety of strategies to help us add and subtract numbers. For example: counting on, counting back, doubling, using physical manipulatives, etc. We have been playing a variety of games to reinforce our understanding of these strategies.
Cross Country
Students had a great time during Cross Country! They got to dress in their house colours and run a lap around the school. This was such a great way to cheer their friends on and show excellent sportsmanship! All students were rewarded with a ribbon for their incredible efforts. Well done to everyone for their participation!
