In reading, students have begun looking at comparing and contrasting characters in stories both written and onscreen. We have explored antagonists and protagonists, heroes and villains and the main character and their sidekicks and how these similarities and differences add interest and a deeper level to the story.
Students have been thoroughly enjoying our work on poetry where we have looked at the structure and rhythm of haikus and limericks, experimented with free verse and the effective use of descriptive words and created blackout poems where they use a written piece of work, and blackout the majority of the words to create their own poetic piece.
In maths, students have investigated the different types of angles, measuring angles using a protractor and finding missing angles in complementary and supplementary angles.
Students have begun exploring units of measurement, starting with length. They were challenged to investigate the statement, 'Most people are seven feet tall.' By tracing their own foot and using it as a measuring tool, they measured their partner's height to determine whether the statement could be proven or disproven.
