Voice of 8
Jacob de Kunder
Year 8 students were recently able to take control of their own learning for a day through the Voice of 8 Program. Students chose an area of interest, determined what and how they wanted to learn and completed a full day of curriculum that they designed themselves. Some built survival shelters and learnt how to cook on an open fire, while others put together a three course Japanese feast. A music session had bands formed and electronic music developed, while those who chose Phys Ed ran a range of competitions for themselves around AFL and soccer. Self-care and wellbeing was a focus for others and costume design and stage acting produced some great results. Art and photography students were able to experience resources usually reserved for senior students; however they rose to the challenge. The day included a sausage sizzle thanks to the VCE-VM students and ended with all groups sharing their successes with the cohort. A huge thank you to all staff involved and to the students for the enthusiasm they demonstrated in the planning, as well as on the day.
