Careers

Athena Aligizakis

The Careers Office has been busy this month organising the Year 9 students to complete their Morrisby unpacking interviews with external careers counsellors. Any remaining students that need to resit their Morrisby profile or have started and not completed theirs yet, will have an opportunity to see an external career counsellor in Term 4.

All Year 12's have now been offered a career counselling session to discuss their career or Uni/TAFE options post Year 12. If you are still unsure or did not attend your original appointment, please request a meeting with me via Compass email, swing past my office in the library, or speak with your teacher, who can put you in touch with me.

A reminder to Year 10's that if you are considering the VCE VM or SBAT programs, you will be required to complete two weeks of work experience. If you are having any trouble finding employers to do your work experience with, please let me know.

As always if you have any questions or need further information, attend my office in the library, or ask your teacher if you can come and see me and we can arrange a time to meet and discuss your queries.

YEAR 9

2025 WORK EXPERIENCE EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST AT PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA

Have you ever wanted a behind-the-scenes look at how our Parliament works? Expressions of interest to complete a work experience placement at the Parliament of Victoria in Terms 1 and 2 2025 are now open.    Lodge an expression of interest via the online link:  https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/teach-and-learn/work-experience/

Students can choose between two programs, Sitting and Services

Parliamentary Sitting placements provide the opportunity to see the law-making process up close. Students will go behind the scenes with the staff who directly support Parliament sittings, to get a deeper understanding of our democratic processes. Parliamentary Services placements offer a variety of opportunities that can be matched with a broad range of student interests and career goals, including business operations, facilities management and maintenance, broadcast (Hansard), and hospitality (kitchen).

YEAR 10

YEAR 11 & 12

Last month we advised that there was an issue with our Year 9 Morrisby profiling accounts. This issue has also affected some students who completed the profile tool in 2022 and 2023. This was the message received from My Career Insights and may impact your child. Your child will be advised if they have been impacted.

Our school has been advised that the Morrisby career tool used as part of the Victorian Department of Education’s My Career Insights program had a technical issue that impacted some student Profiles.  Some students received a zero for one or more of their aptitude tests which may have impacted the careers suggested to them.   Morrisby has fixed the issue, and students who began their assessment from Wednesday 12 June 2024 are not impacted.

What this means for students:

Morrisby is reviewing the impacted profiles and will make recommendations as to which students should retake the missing assessments.   Morrisby is working to make sure this will only apply to a small number of students.   Assessments take between 7 and 12 minutes to complete.   All students with impacted profiles will have the option to retake their missing assessments whenever they choose. They may also request a follow-up interview to understand their new profile.   All Victorian government school students participating in My Career Insights have access to Morrisby for life. We encourage your child to retake assessments throughout their schooling to help with subject and course selection

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Aligizakis, Career & Pathways Advisor.

CENTRE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION STUDIES

Applications are now open for government school students to enrol in a Higher Education Study and/or a select VCE subject through CHES in 2025. Students can enrol through our website here.    (Please see Ms. Aligizakis in the Careers Office for the HES Handbook, eligibility criteria, prerequisites, and enrolment process).

To extend high-achieving government school students, we offer early-access to university subjects to students across Victoria through online (and on-site) learning options. These HES subjects enable students to earn an ATAR contribution and potential university credits. Students can incorporate one Higher Education Study into their overall VCE program at your school and there is no cost to the students (or your school).   Here are the 2025 Higher Education Studies that current Year 11 students can apply to study in Year 12:
