Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Families,

Thank you for such a warm welcome to Ballarat North PS! I have enjoyed meeting students, staff and families this week, and I look forward to learning with and working with you over the next few weeks.

School Concert

You should now have received information both via Compass and in hard copy from Mrs Morris and Mr Beggs regarding the school concert coming up on the 4th and 5th September at Civic Hall. This will be a wonderful celebration for our school and highlight the Performing Arts program and student talents we have in our school. As mentioned last week via Compass, Thursday 5th September will be an early finish at 12:30pm to allow some rest and recovery before the second performance that evening. More information will be coming out in due course regarding more specific elements such as costumes and other preparation.

NAPLAN Results

I congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students on their great results in the NAPLAN assessments. The results are testament to their dedication to their learning, and the great team of teachers and education support staff that support their learning. Of particular note, are Year 5 Reading results, which were 8% higher than similar schools, Year 5 Numeracy at 5% higher than similar schools and Year 3 Reading at 14% higher than similar schools. Great work students and staff!

 Student Concerns

Ballarat North Primary acknowledges that concerns, issues and conflict between students can sometimes arise and can cause stress or worry for students and families. As a caring school community, families and school staff can work together to help students work through issues in a restorative and respectful manner. As adults it is important that we support and model positive interactions and behaviour, as children look up to us all as role models.

I am impressed that Ballarat North Primary uses an educational and restorative approach to resolving issues and conflict that may arise between students. This approach provides students with interpersonal skills they can use as they grow and become adolescents and adults.

We are always happy to discuss any concerns that you may have, and I encourage you to contact your child’s classroom teacher in the first instance, or myself, Mrs Carey or Mrs Macdonald.

Enjoy the weekend!
