P.E.

Olympics Physical Education with Leigh.

The Olympics brings its own level of excitement as athletes sacrifice so much of their time training and preparing, often for just one race! The 100m typifies that level of commitment as the athletes strive to be the fastest person on the planet.

The children this week have been watching so many different sports from gymnastics, handball, running, through to now skateboarding and horse jumping. The high level of performance and the level of access showcases such a variety of sports that people don’t often get to see every day.

This week we have our own District Athletics Carnival and all the 48 children attending will have that motivation to compete and improve - whether it’s the track running events or the high jump or shot put.

All the children from 3/4 through to 5/6 have had a chance to trial in events that they are interested in competing at the carnival on Monday.

Thornbury has a good reputation in the relays thanks to our early training for swift baton changes and the stamina required in running events. We are lucky to have Keith Howden - an athletics and basketball coach offer his time to train the children in both athletics and basketball. Good habits and technique make all the difference in sport.

The 5/6s have another Gala Day this term and the sports are spikeball, ultra frisbee and Newcombe. The teachers are training with the students every Friday this term.

The younger children have finished their swimming at the Ivanhoe Pool and now it's time to begin playing and learning new skills that enhance their hand to eye coordination.

The plans for the development of the school have included a gym area, storage space and hopefully an improved surface to play sport on at the school. I'm looking forward to this as the development will lead to better facilities for all the children now and into the future.

Thanks Everyone
