NAPLAN

NAPLAN results were released earlier this term with all students undertaking this year’s assessments receiving an individual report on their achievement.

As is often the case with overall school results, there was a mixed bag with some steady gains in numeracy but a decline in writing outcomes when compared to last year’s results. Improving maths education is a key priority in our School Strategic Plan and has been a focus of staff professional development to build and strengthen teacher capacity in providing differentiated maths learning programs that target individual learning needs. We expect the results in numeracy will continue to improve significantly over the coming years.

There are 4 proficiency levels as measures of achievement:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

 Numeracy

There has been an increase of 2% of Year 3 students achieving Exceeding or Strong proficiency and a reduction of 6% of students in the Needs additional support proficiency

Year 5 Reading results are generally consistent with last year’s NAPLAN results in the Exceeding proficiency (38%), however there is also an increase in the Needs additional support proficiency.

The percentage of students achieving High Growth ( the growth students have made between Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN Reading assessments) is particularly pleasing with the school results well above the state average and schools with a similar demographic
