5/6 Learning

Community News

Introduction

To start Term 3's new newsletter, a group of students is working as a team of EPS journalists for the school, capturing photos of activities and students' work this semester. They have also been using their spare time to take notes on the classes and what we’re currently doing. The 5/6 classes are working on their new narratives, creating their own characters' backstories with their imaginations. They are having loads of fun, making their new characters' backstories interesting and different, with a lot of effort and creativity put into their work. For further information, read the rest of the newsletter.

Literacy

In literacy, we have been focusing on fairy tales. Using our imaginations, we created our own characters, made plans, wrote backstories for them, and drew our characters and their settings. In reading, we have been examining other books to find their turning points and the events leading up to the climaxes. This helps us learn those skills and get a better understanding of these concepts so we can incorporate them into our own fairy tales, improving them!

Numeracy

In numeracy, we have been learning about fractions. We have been learning how to add and subtract fractions, turn them into decimals, convert them into percentages, and convert mixed fractions into improper fractions. This week has been filled with lots of learning and fun! Every day, we start with examples to help us understand, then we do activities ranging from easy to hard. It has been really effective, allowing us to understand our topics and teaching us so much. We are truly grateful for it. Some very helpful students are going to give us some reviews of the week.

Inquiry - School Production

The 5/6 learning community has been working really hard for the upcoming school production. Our play is going to be about many different fairy tales, each class performing one with its own unique twist.

Phoebe's class is doing Cinderella, but not just Cinderella; it also includes Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. The main characters are Gurshaan as Rudy, JD as Prince Charming, Gyan as the host, and Haley as Cinderella.

Amanda's class is doing Jill and the Beanstalk. The main characters are Sofia as Jill, Lacey as Jill’s mother, Luka as the old man, Polina as Con the Fruiterer, Thomas as the giant, and Angel as Miss Giant.

Bree’s class is doing Hansel and Gretel. Hansel and Gretel are played by Oscar and Beth, with their mother and father played by Nathan and Hannah. Sadly, the mother dies, and they have a new mum, Gloria, played by Abby. These are the main characters of Hansel and Gretel.

Next, we have The Elves and the Shoemaker performed by Gerry's class. Leila, Eliza, Kelise, Aradhya, Oliver, Raavi, and Ryanie are all playing elves, with Noah playing a different role as a scientist elf. Harry plays Michael the Shoemaker, and Max Fyfe plays Mr. Badlands, a homeless man.

Last but not least, we have Jen's class doing Red Riding Hood, with Sofia as Little Red and Lenny as the Big Bad Wolf. Winnie and Henrik play Mr. Bad and Mrs. Bad, Isaac plays Granny’s assistant , and Victoria plays the Granny.

The school production will be held on September 11 at the Clock Tower. Tickets will go on sale soon. Hope to see you there!
