We're following the Gleams!
We have had a busy start to Term 3 in our 3/4 Learning Community! Sam’s class has moved back upstairs to rejoin our learning space and we have enjoyed hearing about all our holiday adventures.
Literacy
In reading, we have been mentor texts to analyse letters. We have learned about informal and formal language as well as the structure and purpose of different types of transactional writing authors use.
In writing, we have enjoyed using what we are learning in reading to apply to our very own letters. We have used the Writing Process to publish appreciation letters to a personal hero in our lives (look out for these letters coming home soon). We have used these new letter writing skills to investigate and write a motivational letter to an Olympian of our choice. It has been great getting to know the athletes competing for Australia in real time.
Numeracy
In Numeracy we have been learning Measurement and investigating formal units of length. We have linked this to the Potato Olympics and had lots of fun measuring various activities with our potatoes. We have also created our own Olympic activities like the Paper Javelin activity where we created paper javelins and measured how far we could throw them. Next week we move onto data and will be graphing all of our results.
Inquiry
In inquiry we have been learning about the Olympics. We have researched and studied various aspects like; the ancient olympics, the modern olympics, the paralympics and Olympic uniforms. We are now exploring the globalisation of the olympics and finding out about other topics such as free trade, mass production, pollution and fast products. We plan to choose an avenue to investigate further and hold an olympic committee meeting to make sure that our future 2032 Brisbane Olympics is fair and environmentally friendly.
