At the MCG

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry we are focussing on Geography and Design. Students have been exploring how places and spaces are organised, with a particular focus on sporting and leisure venues. Students attended an excursion to the MCG, where they had a tour of all the areas, including the change rooms and media spaces! Students have been looking at maps and the layout of particular spaces. They designed the layout for our classrooms and considered what various activities could take place in the room.

Below are the descriptions of a few of our students learning experiences...

This Term in Inquiry, we have been learning about the Olympics and the Greek gods and goddesses. We went to the MCG and got to go into the dressing rooms! A few kids could fit in the lockers. We also saw two pools, one was room temp and the other gets ice put in it!

Things have been so busy and we are so excited for the term ahead. Here is a quick overview of all our learning....and fun!

We learned about the Olympics in ancient Greece and we weren’t about the ancient Greek gods and goddesses. My favorite was Zeus because he was the king of the Gods and goddesses.

Literacy

This Term, the Grade 2 students have been learning how to write persuasive texts. We have been reading and watching lots of different persuasive mediums and storybooks. Last week, we read a wonderful mentor text; ‘The Day the Crayons Came Home’ by Oliver Jeffers and then pretended to be a lost little crayon at school. The students wrote to their owner, persuading them to come and find them, outlining all the problems they had faced when they were lost. It was very funny! The students shared their amazing writing and we had a lot of giggles and laughter as they read their writing aloud in their characters voice. Next week, we will persuade our teachers to build a zoo in the school yard and outline what animals we will put in our zoo.

Maths

This term students have been focusing on multiplication and have started to look at the connections to division! Students have shown their thinking, problem solving and reasoning skills through a variety ways. Students have completed think boards showing all the different ways they can solve multiplication problems.
