Principal's Message

Dear Families,

What an exciting week it has been. Potato Olympics, Foundation first 100 days of school, Prinipal Day celebrations and our Athletics Carnival.

Thursday 1st August was our Foundation students, parents and staff celebration of their first 100 days of school. The day started with a Foundation Assembly with all students being awarded a certificate for their first 100 days of school. 10 minutes before the bell for lunch play, the rest of the school formed a guard of honour to add to the celebrations. Although we didn’t get a chance to see, we know that the Foundation teachers had a whole range of fun activities planned for the classroom.

I would like to thank everyone for their support and contribution to a highly successful 2024 Essendon Primary School Athletics Carnival. All students participated in their events enthusiastically and were extremely well behaved throughout the day.  Our closing assembly was a spectacle of house colours and chanting. Congratulations to Brewster for achieving the most house points on the day. I’d particularly like to thank Tom Hillbrich, Trish Rathmell, Luke Davison, Tania Sharpe, Etsuka Sawada, the Athletics Working Party, parent helpers and all teaching and support staff for the organisation and execution of the Essendon Primary School Athletics day’s events.  Everyone worked tirelessly to ensure all students had a fun day.  We could not have asked for better weather in August.

Week 5 (12th -17th August) is National Science Week and Trish has some exciting activities planned for specialist classes. The theme this year is “Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.

Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week is in Week 6, Monday 19th to 23rd August with the book parade being held on Friday 23rd August. The theme for Book Week 2024 is Reading is Magic. Reading can take you to other worlds; Reading helps you explore new ideas; Reading helps you to understand a different person. We have a whole series of Author visits planned for the week. Heidi McKinnon for Prep - 2, Felice Arena is meeting with the 3/4s and Bernard Caleo with the 5/6s.

It has been a busy 2 weeks with many more activities to look forward to in the weeks to come.
