Wellbeing and Engagement

Heather McClure

This week we have launched the Live4Life training for our year 8 cohort. Students will complete the training across 3 weeks. Live4Life is the only mental health education and youth suicide prevention model designed specifically for rural and regional communities.

Live4Life communities deliver Mental Health First Aid Australia® Teen and accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid training in schools and the wider community. They create local partnerships to lead conversations about mental health that reduce stigma, and promote young leaders as mental health ambassadors.

Our year 10 students completed the training during term 2, we are excited for our year 8 students to have the opportunity to complete the training. Whilst we have wellbeing support in every session, I encourage parents/ guardians to continue to check in with their child/children and reach out to the school if you feel your child requires further support.

During this term a number of staff will also undertake Youth Mental health first aid training increasing the group of staff who have already completed the training.

Earlier in the week I posted information on compass about our school conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students. The survey is conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

I encourage all Woodmans Hill families to complete the survey to ensure that your opinions and feedback is communicated through to the school. Please login to compass to follow the link provided to complete the survey. Please note: The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024

Over the coming weeks I will also be seeking feedback from students around their perception of safety and bullying within the community. Students will be invited to provide feedback around their experiences and share suggestions to continue to increase our safety and promote an inclusive and respectful environment.
