Dear Armidale Secondary College Community,
We have had an incredible Term 3 so far, with much to be proud of and celebrate. Our school has enjoyed inspiring events, strong community engagement, and a shared celebration of the values that make our school exceptional.
This term, we celebrated Public Education Week, centred around the theme #ProudToBelong. We were honoured to welcome Michele Bullock, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, who visited Armidale Secondary College. As an alumnus of one of our foundation schools, Armidale High School, Michele exemplifies the importance of teachers and the profound impact of public education. Her engaging speech emphasised the common bond we share through education and inspired our students to think big and aspire to leadership roles in various fields, including economics. Her visit was a powerful reminder of the role teachers play in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. I would like to acknowledge our team here at ASC for the wonderful work they do every day to inspire our students.
Our NAIDOC Week celebrations were also an incredible highlight, showcasing vibrant cultural expression and student engagement. We were honoured to welcome Dr Casey Sullivan, a proud Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi woman and General Practitioner who owns her own medical practice in Tamworth. Dr Casey is committed to increasing medical accessibility and cultivating change in the North West NSW community. We were privileged to hear her stories and grateful for the wisdom she shared with our community. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to our local primary schools for joining us in the celebrations and activities. The bead and bracelet-making and dance workshops were particularly enjoyed by all, offering a wonderful opportunity for students and community members to engage creatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. These activities underscored our commitment to promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity within our school. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a proud and dedicated Aboriginal Education team—thank you to all.
I hope you’ve been keeping up with the incredible sporting achievements and creative arts accomplishments of our students, which we regularly post on our Facebook page. We appreciate the positive engagement from our school community on this platform and are beyond proud to showcase the work of all our students.
As our Year 12 students undertake their HSC trials and prepare for their upcoming exams, I want to wish them the very best. Remember that work-life balance is important, and it’s essential to take care of yourselves during this exciting but challenging time. We are all here to support you!
I am immensely #ProudToBelong to Armidale Secondary College and deeply grateful for the incredible team of staff and students who make our school an outstanding example of public education.
