Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, Grade 2 students are continuing in creating information reports through drafting their subheadings and facts.

VOCABULARY

Draft: A draft is the first version of your writing. It's where you put down your ideas and thoughts before you make it better. Think of it like a practice run before the final piece.

Subheading: A subheading is a smaller title under the main title. It helps to show what a section of the text is about. It's like a label that tells you what you will read next.

Facts: Facts are things that are true and can be proven. They are real information about something. For example, "The sky is blue" is a fact.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your student, continue working together creating a draft information report (following the structure); drafting subheadings and facts.

An example would be for an animal, subheadings would be “Description of the animal, diet and habitat” with important facts underneath.
