Reconciliation Week 2026: A Time to Reflect, Learn and Act
During National Reconciliation Week, our school community came together to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and achievements. Held annually from 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week provides an important opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation through our everyday actions.
Throughout the week, students and staff participated in a range of optional lunchtime activities organised by members of our Reconciliation Action Plan working team. These activities encouraged learning, reflection and engagement with First Nations cultures in a variety of meaningful and interactive ways.
Activities throughout the week included:
Kahoot Quiz – Students tested their knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions through an engaging and interactive quiz competition. Congratulations to Alex Smith who came first!
FREEMAN Documentary Screening – Students and staff viewed the documentary exploring the life and achievements of Aboriginal Australian athlete and role model, Cathy Freeman, and reflected on her impact on Australian sport and society.
Equality Collective Collaboration – Students participated in activities highlighting positive Indigenous stories, learned an Indigenous Word of the Week, recognised an Indigenous Ally of the Week, and enjoyed mindful colouring accompanied by Indigenous music. Thank you Mr Fernando for facilitating this session with our students!
Indigenous Cooking Class – Participants learned about native Australian ingredients while creating and tasting wattle seed and chocolate balls, providing a hands-on cultural learning experience. Thank you to Ruth from Taste N See, our Wellbeing team and our Food Technology team for setting up this experience and joining us to help educate the students!
Bran Nue Dae Film Screening – Students enjoyed this iconic Australian film, which celebrates Aboriginal culture through music, storytelling and humour.
Indigenous Sports Activities – Students took part in a range of traditional and contemporary Indigenous games, including Marn-grook, while learning about the cultural significance of sport within First Nations communities. Thank you Miss Brugliera and our Sport Captains Pheobe and Jadon for organising this!
The week provided valuable opportunities for students and staff to strengthen their understanding of First Nations perspectives, celebrate cultural diversity and reflect on the ongoing journey towards reconciliation. It was wonderful to see members of our school community engaging enthusiastically in the activities and demonstrating a commitment to building respectful relationships and a more inclusive future.
