Artist of the Week
Each week we celebrate the work of enthusiastic artists:
Vanessa Yu
Congratulations to Vanessa Yu (7F) who has been selected at 'KSC Artist of the Week' by Ms McLellan. Vanessa completed this artwork as part of her Year 7 Artist Inspired Work and was inspired by the artist John Brack to create this compelling piece. Well done Vanessa!
Please read below what Vanessa has written to describe her art piece.
The title of the artwork is 'Price'.
I was inspired by John Brack's unique art style. It is good to show problems in the society, so I chose to use his style to remind us of the problems of “choosing the wife" as an item in shops. Price is usually known as price tag in shops, in this artwork can be understood as “price" that is attached to woman. In the picture, the award stage under some of the women means "prize", which is similar to the pronunciation of "price.”

Lena Khoshnafas
Congratulations to Lena Khoshnafas (8I) who has been selected at 'KSC Artist of the Week' by Miss Humphris. Lena completed this artwork as part of her Year 8 ‘People and Technology’ assessment task. The aim of this assessment task was to explore and develop watercolour painting practices using a variety of techniques to produce an individual artwork based on the concept of People and Technology. Well done Vanessa!
Please read below what Vanessa has written to describe her art piece.
‘My artwork is about digesting toxic things from the internet, and when you're so full of it, you get sick and vomit it out (unleashing anger). It was created mainly with water colours, plus black fine liner.’

Deakin University Art excursion
Over a two-week period, our Year 8 students had the opportunity to visit Deakin University and participate in an engaging and inspiring visual arts program. The experience was filled with creativity, exploration, and opportunities for students to experiment with a variety of artistic materials, processes, and techniques.
Students immersed themselves in gallery-based learning, observational drawing activities, and hands-on creative workshops that encouraged artistic thinking and problem-solving. Working in a university setting provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience art beyond the classroom and gain insight into creative pathways and learning environments.
Upon returning to KSC, students had plenty to discuss and reflect upon. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and appreciated the chance to engage with art in a new and stimulating environment. The excursion not only enriched their understanding of contemporary art practices but also inspired them to approach their own creative work with greater confidence and curiosity.
2026 Years 7-10 Visual Arts Showcase
Our Visual Arts Curriculum focuses on developing students’ art knowledge & skills, develop the processes of learning how to appreciate and produce works of art, heighten curiosity, keenness in observation, analytical & critical thinking and ability and to sharpen their creativity.
Not only would such learning experiences help Koonung Secondary students nurture talents for our creative industries, more importantly, the aesthetic pursuits help enrich the lives of our students and all those who come across their work of arts.
KSC celebrated a Visual Arts Showcase of students’ achievements and I am so proud to have exhibited of all their efforts, hard work and creativity throughout the works that were on display. We hope that you enjoyed viewing the creative talents of the KSC students.
Thank you to the Visual Arts Domain teachers who not only exhibited students works but also prepared the students to complete such creative and exciting artworks.
