Connect Days
What are Connect Days?
Connect Days are part of Koonung Secondary College’s holistic approach to learning and wellbeing. Held once each term, these days are designed to strengthen students’ social and emotional skills, build resilience, and foster positive connections with peers, staff and the wider school community. The program aligns with our school values and the Respectful Relationships curriculum, supporting students to feel confident, connected and ready to learn.
Year 9 Connect Day 26 May – Beyond the Classroom: Skills for Life
On Tuesday 26 May, our Year 9 students participated in their second Connect Day for the year, centred around the theme “Beyond the Classroom: Skills for Life.” The day provided students with valuable opportunities to develop practical skills, strengthen relationships and build their capacity to navigate future challenges both within and beyond school.
A highlight of the day was an engaging presentation from Crazy Ideas College, which focused on helping students become “Future Ready.” Through interactive activities and discussions, students explored key capabilities such as leadership, collaboration, initiative and adaptability, encouraging them to think about the skills and mindsets needed for success in a rapidly changing world.
Throughout the day, students also participated in a range of meaningful learning experiences, including:
IBM SkillsBuild Micro Credentials – Students completed a series of industry-recognised micro credentials, developing digital and employability skills while exploring future learning and career pathways.
Elephant Ed Respectful Relationships Workshop – In small-group sessions, students engaged in important discussions around consent, personal boundaries and healthy relationships. The workshop explored topics including affirmative consent, coercive control, power dynamics and effective communication strategies.
Class vs Class Competition – Students participated in a variety of physical activities and challenges that promoted teamwork, school spirit and positive peer interactions.
Student Attitudes to School Survey – Students contributed valuable feedback through the annual survey, helping the school identify strengths and areas for improvement to further support student wellbeing and learning outcomes.
The day was filled with active participation, thoughtful discussion and opportunities for personal growth. It was wonderful to see students engaging with new ideas, developing important life skills and strengthening connections with their peers and the wider school community.
