Year 11 Geography Excursion

On Thursday 30 April, our Year 11 Geography students participated in a fieldwork excursion to Brunswick Street Mall and the surrounding Fortitude Valley precinct as part of their Unit 2 study: Responding to challenges facing a place in Australia.

Throughout the day, students worked alongside the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre (BUEEC) to collect a range of primary data through observations, mapping, environmental quality assessments, pedestrian movement counts, and user surveys.

Students investigated how liveability varies and explored the ways urban environments can be managed to improve the experiences of different community members. This fieldwork is essential to the completion of their Geography IA2 Field Report assessment and provides students with valuable opportunities to apply geographical inquiry skills in a real-world setting. Following the excursion, students will analyse and synthesise both qualitative and quantitative data to identify liveability challenges within Fortitude Valley and propose evidence-based actions to improve the liveability of the Valley.

It was great to see students actively engaging with the fieldwork activities throughout the day and representing the school so positively while out in the community. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to contribute to discussions and data collection made the day a valuable learning experience for all involved.
