Hello Parents and Friends,
Happy Education Week! We are looking forward to celebrating Education Week with you all next week. Please see the details below about our Open Morning and Night. We have so much to be proud of at Templestowe Park PS. Next week provides an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding learning that takes place at our school and reflect on the hard work that makes our learning community so successful.
We have provided some photos of our Grade 5/6 camp to Alexandra below. The students, teachers and parent volunteers had a fantastic time.

We are looking forward to celebrating Education Week from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May. The Education Week theme in 2026 is 'Showcase your school', and Templestowe Park has plenty to show!
We will be hosting an Open Morning and Night at the following times.
Please stay tuned to Compass for a full schedule of events during Education Week.
Our Open Day/Night is an extremely popular event and we have hundreds of community members attend.

At our Open Night we will be celebrating all the different areas that make our school such a special place to learn. This includes a focus on our ‘Specialist’ classes and extra-curricular opportunities that our students have an opportunity to experience. We are state leaders in the opportunities we provide our students and we are so proud of their achievements.
Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) – We are hoping to have our COLA and new synthetic grass completed for our community to experience. If the synthetic grass is not fully installed, families will still be able to see our new learning and playing space under lights.
Buskers – The budding musicians from Jeanette’s music program will be playing in the open area in front of the canteen.
TPPS Passport challenge!

We invite families to collect an ‘Open Night Passport’ when they arrive at school. Please abide by our one per family allocation. Follow the directions in the passport to see and learn about our outstanding specialist and extra-curricular programs. Please see the places to visit below.
Your child’s classroom: Come and see where your child learns every day. Make sure you ask them to see the excellent work they have been doing. There is so much learning to celebrate!
STEM Room – Drop in and visit our STEM Discovery room and join in on the great domino tower building competition. Our STEM program offers our students the opportunity to code and build robots, undertake exciting experiments and spend time with our school lizard, Godzilla.
Sustainability Room – TPPS is one of the only schools in Victoria that has a specialist Sustainability program. Come and learn how to be sustainable at home and find out all the amazing sustainability work we do at TPPS.
Physical Education – We love sport at TPPS! Come and join Mr Van Der Pol under our COLA or on the synthetic grass area to participate in fun games. With state finalists and championships in a range of sports, TPPS is a great place to be active with your friends.
Performing Arts Room - This is where the magic happens. Come and enjoy three activities about drama, dance and music. Our bi-annual Grade 5/6 school musicals are legendary and you can learn about them in our Performing Arts room.
Visual Arts Room – TPPS is known for the beautiful art that our students produce. Student artwork adorns the walls all year round and our Grade 6 Legacy project is something that all students and our whole community cherish.
Mandarin Classroom – Come and join in the fun in our Mandarin classroom. Ms He always brings Chinese culture to life and our students love learning the culture and language in a fun environment.
Houses at TPPS – Take a look in our Grade 1 classrooms to learn about the different Houses at TPPS. The four House names are based on the four elements (earth, air, fire and water) that are considered fundamental to nature and life. We have used ‘Sun’ instead of air. Our House names are the elements that bring life to Templestowe Park PS. These elements represent everyone from different cultures, backgrounds and groups at TPPS. The House names are written in the language of the Wurundjeri people. The Wurundjeri people are the Aboriginal people of the Woiwurrung language group, in the Kulin nation. They are the traditional owners of the Yarra River Valley, covering much of the present location of Melbourne and Templestowe.
Maths and English extra-curricular – Maths Talent Quest (MTQ), Maths Games, Writers' Festival, Debating. There is so much we offer our students. Come to the Library to learn about why we are named State champions in the MTQ every year and all the other amazing opportunities we offer our students.
We look forward to celebrating Education Week with you!

Asphalt and curb works are now completed on our basketball courts. Work in this area has been more extensive than first projected. There was quite a large dip in the asphalt and a broken curb in front of the chook pen. After building a new curb, we have replaced almost all of the asphalt basketball court to ensure a flat and long-lasting court area. The installation of the synthetic grass has commenced and we are hoping to have it completed by our Open Night next Thursday.
We are completely blown away with how this project has worked out. The COLA looks sensational and with fully rebuilt basketball courts with synthetic grass, this area is exactly what our school needed. We will keep you all updated about the completion date via Compass.

On Wednesday we held our first Taste of School for Prep 2027 students. The Taste of School sessions are designed to give pre-school children their very first experience at school in a fun, safe and engaging environment. We had almost 50 students in attendance and this is the biggest group we have ever hosted for this event. Due to the large number of students we had to offer two Art and one Sport session.
The kinder kids had a fantastic time and absolutely loved their first experience of school. Ms Sumner and Ms Conn undertook exciting Art sessions while Mrs Boucher had the group for Sport. Our Grade 4 helpers did a wonderful job supporting the kinder kids. The children were so comfortable and confident in their new surroundings. We could not wipe the smile off their faces when they returned to their parents at the end of the session.
Our second and final ‘Taste of School’ session will take place next Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm.
The Templestowe Park PS Annual Report to the School Community has now been published. Please click here to read about our achievements from last year.

All schools deal with head lice at different times. If your child does contract head lice, it is extremely important that you inform the school and treat it appropriately so it does not return. Head lice are quite resilient and may need to be treated on a number of occasions.
Please click here for a link to the ‘Better Health Channel’ website that provides information about and treatment for head lice.

Last Thursday and Friday, Mark Roberts and Robyn Twyford attended the Monash Manningham Principals Conference at the RACV Cape Schank Resort. It was a fantastic two days of learning about leadership and how to improve our school. The major focus of the conference was on how schools implement the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM) and the science of learning. A particular focus was on the ‘Behaviour Curriculum’ and consistent routines in schools. We are extremely pleased that Templestowe Park PS has been using the science of learning principles for the last two years now and are far greater advanced than many other schools. We have seen outstanding growth in student performance over this time and we are so pleased with the hard work of our students and staff.
Please click here to see the Beliefs and Actions of our school that are based on the VTLM and science of learning.

Throughout this term, we have seen a steep increase of students with fidget toys in class. Fidget toys can be very distracting to the student and to others in the class. There are a very small number of students that have worked with our Student Wellbeing Leader and have a fidget toy as part of their Individual Education Plan. If your child is not one of these students, they are not permitted to have a fidget toy in the class.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

At our Assembly last week, Annabelle M received the Principals' Award. Annabelle is a kind, empathetic, and inclusive member of our class who always treats others with respect and without judgement. She had a little scare last term when she was told she had broken her arm, meaning she was going to miss out on Division Swimming. Thankfully, after a second opinion, her arm was cleared and she was able to represent TPPS. Her main concern during that time was being at school and doing her work to the best of her ability.
Annabelle is a model student who truly exemplifies all of the RRIPO values and is a most deserving recipient of the Principals' Award. She has a warm, welcoming smile and demonstrates exceptional manners in all that she does, making those around her feel valued and comfortable.
Well done Annabelle! We are so proud of you.
Have a fantastic weekend!
