Music Ensembles

Please see below for start-of-year details of the College’s various co-curricular ensembles:

Chamber Choir

Please note that Chamber Choir members will be returning to the College via bus after the Swimming Carnival on Monday 12 February for rehearsal. Please see Ms Alexander with any queries.

String Orchestra

The College’s ensemble for violin, viola, cello and double bass players commences this Tuesday 13 February at 7:45am in the Osborne Room. Please contact Mr James Kros (james.kros@johnxxiii.edu.au) with any queries.

Chamber Orchestra – Auditions

Who: Years 7 to 12 students who learn violin, viola, cello or double bass.

When: Wednesday 14 February, Osborne Room from 7:00am

Process: Sign up inside the Music Office and collect a short excerpt to practice and play in the audition.

Year 6 Band – First Rehearsal

Commences this Wednesday 14 February from 7:30am in the Performing Arts Centre. Please contact Ms Liz Jennings (elizabeth.jennings@johnxxiii.edu.au) with any queries.

Treble Choir – First Rehearsal

Commences this Wednesday 14 February from 3:15pm – 4:15pm in the GBLT. Please contact Ms Kath Alexander (kath.alexander@johnxxiii.edu.au) with any queries.

Wind, Concert and Swing Band – Auditions

Who: Years 7 to12 students learning flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, bass guitar, saxophone or percussion/drums.

When: Thursday 15 February, Performing Arts Centre from 7:00am

Process: Sign up outside the Music Office, bring your instrument and play a piece from 2023.

Chapel Choir

Chapel Choir is open to all Years 1 to12 students who love singing, with a focus on liturgical music. Rehearsals commence at 7:30am in the Chapel with Mrs Haydon and Mr Johnston. Chapel Choir then sings at Community Mass (commencing at 8:00am). Secondary students who sing in the choir may include this time in their Roncalli Service hours. The next Chapel Choir rehearsal and Community Mass is in Week 3 on Friday 16th February 2024. Please contact Ms Catherine Haydon (Catherine.Haydon@johnxxiii.edu.au) for more information.

Withdrawal from Music Lessons

Please note that withdrawals from lessons for Semester 1 have closed. Withdrawals from Semester 2 must be submitted by Friday 7 June at 4:00pm.
