From the Art Room...

This term will see everyone participating in drawing and collage units. Each year level will focus on different themes, projects and skills so as to continuously build knowledge.
Foundation students will be experimenting and exploring with drawing Pop Art, Op Art and coral reef studies. They will also be creating collage pieces of blossom vases and funny textured monsters.
The Year 1/2 level are focusing on observational drawing techniques and learning how to show form and space in a still life. They will continue with this theme by looking at space in landscapes and Impressionist art. Finally, the collage activity will involve ephemeral collages using found objects in nature.
Our Year 3/4 cohort are looking at observational drawing and how to create form with shading. They will undertake a study of sea creatures to complete a detailed textured drawing of their chosen animal. Their collage activity is a mixed media 3D vase and flowers inspired by Van Gogh.
The Year 5/6 group will be completing a drawing demonstrating depth and space using one-point perspective. Ancient Egyptian art will inspire their next drawing using the grid technique to recreate an image. The Year 5 collage piece is a mixed media Surrealist melting clock. Whilst the Year 6 drawing is a moody still life influenced by the Baroque art period.
Some of these pieces will find their way into our special whole school Art Show happening in Term 3.
Looking forward to the term ahead,
Ms. De Stefanis
Here is a video that talks a little about different types of art and ways we can try to understand them. It might help start some art conversations in your home!
