大家好(Da jia hao)! Hello, everyone!

With the commencement of the Lunar New Year festivities in Term 1, students will engage in various Mandarin learning activities as they delve into new topics.

 

Foundation

Starting from Week 3 of this term, students will learn 'Numbers' from 1 to 10 with Chinese figure movements representing the numbers. They will also learn two songs, including the "Nihao" greeting and Number Songs, enhancing their interest in learning Mandarin and getting used to Mandarin pronunciation.

 

Grade 1/2

Students will explore the topic of 'Months of the Year & the Four Seasons', reinforcing their oral and numerical skills acquired in previous years. This includes the ability to express their birthdays and understand other people's birthdays in Chinese. Additionally, they will learn two main topic songs: 'Ji jie ge', which translates to 'Four Seasons Song', and the 'Chinese version of the Birthday Song'.

 

Grade 3/4 

Students will be introduced to the topic of 'Chinese Zodiac Animals', which will provide them with a deeper level of Chinese cultural learning this term. They will explore fun facts associated with Chinese zodiac animals, learn stories and personality traits of their zodiac signs, and be able to express their Chinese zodiac signs in Chinese. Additionally, students will engage in an outdoor activity of playing jackstones.

 

Grade 5/6

Students will explore general facts about China this term, focusing on geography. They will learn about rivers, beautiful mountains, major cities, and neighboring countries, marking them on the map to gain a better understanding of their locations. Additionally, students will examine Chinese celebrities, including contemporary movies and sports stars, based on their interests. Outdoor activities such as playing jackstones and Chinese hacky sacks will also be included.
