Library
Welcome to the Essendon North Primary School Library.
All students visit the library once a week with their classroom teacher. Our library is well resourced with 14,000 quality, age-appropriate picture books, junior fiction and non-fiction books which not only align with the Australian Curriculum and our International Baccalaureate PYP program but also reflect and respect the diversity of our school community.
During their library session, students will select books for their classroom and choose books to bring home. Foundation to Year Two students may borrow two books for home, Years Three and Four may borrow three books for home and Years Five and Six may borrow four books for home.
It is an expectation that all students bring a library bag to their library session every week. Essendon North Primary School library bags are available for purchase at PSW but any tote bag from home is acceptable. Library bags help to protect our books from the rain or food spillages and help keep our books separate from your books at home. Unfortunately, students are unable to borrow if they don’t have their library bag or have not returned books from the previous week.
In addition to weekly library visits, the library is open every lunchtime as an alternative to the busy oval and playgrounds. The library runs several reading initiatives during the year such as The Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge and National Simultaneous Storytime. Each year we host a Scholastic Book Fair and in August we have a dress-up day to celebrate National Book Week! More information about these events will be sent during the year via Compass.
