The Blessing of the Pets is a unique event held at the Junior School each year. For our boarders it makes for an interesting start to their day. This year two adventurous cats decided to avoid the blessing altogether and slipped away, prompting a rescue. Thanks to the calm persistence of our wonderful weekend boarders, Fitzy the cat was found hiding out in the hedge. Georgina then lovingly cat-sat Fitzy in her room whilst awaiting collection by his worried owners. Pepper the elusive black cat was later found by her owners in the dark of the night enjoying some alone time in the Myrniong gardens. Thankfully after all their adventures, the two felines were reunited with their grateful humans.

Acknowledging and celebrating all cultures in the boarding house is essential to creating a community where we all feel valued and connected. Events like our Chinese Afternoon Tea offer international boarders a meaningful link to home while giving Australian students the chance to deepen their understanding of culture. These shared experiences build respect, curiosity, and genuine friendships. Ultimately, embracing cultural traditions strengthens our sense of belonging and highlights the boarding house’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity. I know I certainly enjoyed the tea; the traditional black tea being my favourite.

The boarders had a fantastic time attending the local Carnival over the weekend. From rides and games to the special treat of the fireworks display, it was a nice outing that allowed them to connect with each other. I must admit some of the rides may have pushed the boundaries with some boarders feeling a little giddy afterwards! Opportunities like the carnival, the movies, or having friends to visit does help the Boarding House to truly feel like a home away from home; boarding is not just where students live, but where they share life together.
