Assistant Principal's

Report

As we head into the final three weeks of the school year, things are certainly feeling busy and exciting across the school. Our P–2 students are heading off to Traffic School this week, an experience they always look forward to, and our Year 3/4s will enjoy their Beach Day on Thursday. With so many wonderful activities happening, there’s a great sense of energy and enjoyment as we make the most of these final weeks together.

How to support your child under 16 with the new social media age restrictions

From 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 will require social media platforms to:

  • prevent children and young people under 16 from having a social media account
  • deactivate or freeze existing accounts held by people under 16.
  •

Delaying access to social media protects the health and well-being of young people and gives them extra time to build real-world connections and digital literacy skills.

The responsibility will be on the social media platforms, not parents, carers, children or schools, to implement these new restrictions.

Most popular social media platforms will be age-restricted. These include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit and YouTube.

Messaging services and online games, as well as apps and platforms that support health and education, can still be used.

How to help under 16s prepare for the change:

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting their children to be safe online.

To help get under 16s ready for the social media minimum age requirements, you can go to the eSafety website to learn more about the social media age restrictions and find tips on how to talk about social media age restrictions with young people.

What the change means for our school:

At our school, all age-restricted social media platforms are blocked for student use on the school network.

Step Up Day

Next Tuesday, we will be holding our Step Up Day, where students will spend time with their 2026 teacher and classmates. This aligns with the Statewide Transition Day for our Year 6 students as they visit their new secondary schools. Step Up Day is designed to be a positive and supportive experience, giving students the opportunity to begin familiarising themselves with their new teacher, classroom environment, and peers. Our teachers will be thoughtfully guiding this process to ensure all students feel comfortable, confident, and excited about the year ahead.

Open Afternoon/End of Year Picnic/$20 Boss

Next Wednesday, the 10th, we look forward to welcoming families to our final PYP Open Afternoon and End-of-Year Picnic. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the learning, growth, and achievements of our students across the year. Our Year 5 students will also be running their $20 Boss Market out on the block, showcasing their creativity and entrepreneurial skills. We encourage families to bring along some coins to support their stalls and join us in marking what has been a fantastic year of learning and community.

Tabloid Sports

This Friday, our P–4 students will take part in Tabloid Sports from 11:50 am, a highlight of the year that always brings plenty of fun and laughter. The day will be led by our Year 6 students, who have been preparing activities and are excited to guide the younger year levels through a range of energetic stations. A big thank you to Ben for dedicating his time to organising this event. Parents are warmly invited to come along to Edinburgh Gardens if they would like to spectate.

Have a great week.

Joe
