Schools Upgrade Fund No 2

Work has begun around the school.

A new pool fence has replaced the old cyclone wire fence in Playground 6. This will add to the security of the school and the safety of the students.

The second stage of improving the drainage in Playgrounds 4 and 5 has begun. The artificial turf has been pulled up and digging equipment has moved into the area.

Contractors expect to be finished late January/Early February but that will be dependent on weather conditions and any unexpected surprises that are found during the works.

We thank the students and staff for being flexible in finding new ways to navigate through the school.

Curriculum Day Maintenance

We have organised  contractors - electrical, plumbing to be on site on the Curriculum day so they can do their half yearly and annual checks on Air-conditioners.  We have some larger repairs and investigations being held on that day also. It is more productive doing these works when students are not present.  We plan any major works for the Christmas school holidays.

Thank you and Goodbye

I would like to thank Frances our Facilities Manager who has been diligent throughout the year getting quotes and organising tradespeople to come and make repairs. It can be a frustrating job as at times "tradies" are hard to find.  Frances has also backed up my role on the days I do not work.

Everyone knows Jacob because he is "here, there and everywhere" fixing "this and that". We thank Jacob for approaching his maintenance role with a smile on his face despite having to repair some things repeatedly.

I have enjoyed my Capital Works Role and the many projects in which Corinne and I have worked with architects and builders to design and implement over the years - climbing room, OT room, Playgrounds  1, 2 and 6 redevelopment,  resurfacing of Playgrounds 3 & 4 and the replacement of the junior wing with permanent modular buildings.  However, the most significant project has been the Yaluk building, which was designed during the Covid lockdown periods. I am now putting all the building and design skills I have developed at Jacana into a major renovation at home.

I wish to thank all the students and staff who showed flexibility, despite the challenges during the construction periods of the school projects.  I will miss my interactions with students and staff but am looking forward to the next stage of my journey.
