Flying Bookworm Theatre Company incursion

On Friday the 14th of November, FKJ students were treated to a wonderful visit from the Flying Bookworm Theatre Company. Two talented performers, with help from the FKJ students,  brought three traditional tales to life on stage, delighting students with their energetic storytelling and creative acting.

To support Team Foundation’s Term 4 Creativity concept, The Bridge and Beyond, Foundation students took part in this incursion as a way to deepen their understanding of stories and themes connected to our learning this term.

Students enjoyed live performances of:

  • The Three Billy Goats Gruff
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • The Magic Turnip

The performance of The Three Billy Goats Gruff linked directly to our Term 4 topic, and seeing this familiar story acted out made it even more memorable! The Magic Turnip highlighted the importance of teamwork — a key focus as students begin collaborating on their end-of-term project, learning how cooperation helps everyone succeed. Meanwhile, Goldilocks and the Three Bears reinforced the theme of making wise choices — an essential life skill for all young learners.

Coming up in the Foundation Classroom

Literacy:

  • FKJ Writing Focus

Students are continuing to work on their individualised Writing Goals to support their writing development.

  • FKJ Reading Focus

We will continue to look at the text by Pamela Allen , 'Who sank the boat?' Students will be looking carefully at the structure of the narrative. They will look at the ways the characters and setting are introduced through the illustrations. They will also look carefully at words that the author choses to describe the characters in the story.

Numeracy:

  • Over the next few weeks, FKJ students will be exploring the Numeracy concept of financial mathematics. Students will be introduced to Australian money and will investigate a range of important ideas, including:
  • how we earn or receive money
  • how we store money safely
  • what Australian coins and notes look like
  • the value of each coin and note
  • the different ways we can use or spend money
  • This learning will help students build a strong foundation in real-world numeracy, encouraging them to think thoughtfully and responsibly about the role money plays in everyday life.
