Camp Rumbug - Year 5 and 6

Highlights

Leap of faith was such a big highlight because we had to climb 10 meters high but once you had jumped off the platform you would feel the huge tingle that felt super relieved when you jumped off the platform.

Giant swing was a highlight too because of the beautiful view from across the valley and pulling the string which dropped you down.

Archery…. It was AMAZING because watching Bree (our instructor) shoot the arrows and teaching us everything we needed to know was really helpful. Some people even hit bullseye which was really awesome to witness.

Overall there were way too many highlights to list all of them so we listed the best ones and all the other highlights were great too just not as good as the ones we listed!

Challenges

Some things that were challenging were the giant swing because it really hurt when you were getting lifted up. But once you get to the top it is so fun because you get to pull a string which makes you go up and down as a swing goes. At first the swing is very scary, but after that it's a joyride.

Also the leap of faith there was scary too, it was 10 meters high and at the top there was a little platform about 50 cm wide. We had to stand on the platform and have our toes on the edge. Then we would have to jump off the platform and hit the ball but some of us didn't reach it.

Sleeping in our cabin was a bit of a challenge. because it's not so easy to go to sleep in a room full of your friends. We also got woken up really early with Mrs Mason's famous wake up song.

Bushcraft was also challenging. Tying knots making sure we perfected them, and making them very tight and making sure the wood doesn't fall down, and making a sturdy roof. Making a base for a fire also making sure it doesn't topple over and there's holes for the smoke to get out.

If we had our time again at camp Rumbug we would:

try to aim at the target instead of the grass in archery.

we would be less scared on the leap of faith and trust myself.

we would be less competitive on the canoes and instead enjoy ourselves on the water

we would try to stretch out as we leapt to touch the buoy on the Leap of Faith.

we would tell our cabin group to be quiet so we could actually go to sleep and be prepared for the next day.

St Mary’s Family Fun Day, Saturday 15th November

Written by Zelie, Davide, Jay & Mia - Community Leaders

Thank you to everybody who helped or came to the Family Fun Day. It was a huge success! The food was scrumptious, ranging from sushi from Park Bar to a classic Aussie barbeque. We had a coffee van and two huge bake sales. There was an awesome Community store which sold necklaces, crochet, etc that people donated or made. The Glam Tent was very popular for those seeking a tattoo or hair braid.

The games were also a BLAST! Every game from choc toss, beanbag throw, pin the glasses on the Bluey, ring toss, mini golf, the bouncy castle and the rubber duck game were amusing and kept us busy, especially the bouncy castle. We could see that everybody was having a phenomenal time jumping around and sliding down the slide into a ballpit.

The stage area was host to many activities including the ever popular Dog Show, St Mary’s Got Talent, Taekwondo exhibition, Art Auction and the Raffle draw.  Mr Millane was kept very busy on the microphone making announcements and even showing his talent by conducting the St Mary’s choir.

One of our favourite events of the day was watching the incredible St Mary's Got Talent which the Community Leaders got to host. Every act was mind blowing from magic tricks which fooled us, to dance, singing, telling jokes and some hip hop dancing. Everyone who participated did an incredible job as it is hard to get up in front of everyone and it takes a lot of confidence which they all have.

Also, a special guest, Bluey, made an appearance and was a huge fan favourite.

The family fun day was incredible and it is a day no one will forget.

A special thanks to the P&F and everybody who donated, baked and helped on the day we couldn’t have done it without you. Lot’s of hard work went into this delightful day.
