Level 5

Dear Level 5 Families,
As we dive deeper into the school year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation for your support and partnership. It was wonderful to see friendly faces at the information night and it has been lovely to meet with parents if needed. It truly makes a difference in our students' learning experiences.
Celebrations from the week
We are filled with joy and pride as our Level 5 students continue to be joyful, respectful, enthusiastic and kind! It has been a delight to witness how well our students have settled into the year. They have also been assisting the Foundation students at recess and lunchtimes with friendships issues and structured play. It has been truly heart warming to see.
Literacy
In Reading, we have been embracing the joy of books. Students have been sharing their favorite books and the reasons why they love them, leading to rich discussions about the emotions and meanings behind different stories. Utilizing thinking routines has helped deepen their understanding and foster respectful debates.
In Writing, we are focusing on narrative writing. Earlier in Week 3, we conducted a 'cold write' to assess strengths and set goals, highlighting areas such as punctuation, paragraphing, descriptive language and editing. We are encouraging our students to 'Show don't tell' with their words and use langauage and expressive vocabualary to paint a picture in the reader's mind.
Numeracy
In Maths, our exploration of place value, decimals, factors, and multiples has been engaging through open-ended questions, Kahoot quizzes and math games. We encourage students to show their working out and justify their answers.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry topic is 'Identity' as we look at the Federation of Australia, the roles of key figures and the way immigration has shaped our lives.
In our Respectful Relationships program, we are focusing on emotional literacy, with our Friendology lessons aimed at identifying personal strengths and overcoming negative thoughts.
Homework
Homework has started this week. Students are required to read every night and write it in their journals, complete a spelling activity and a mental maths sheet.
