Traces of Learning

This week, some of our classes were engaged in very special encounters, facilitated by Jarryd and by our classroom teachers, who are building an incredible skill set through their work with Traces of Learning and through the experiences they are curating for their students. I happened to walk into the 5B classroom at the perfect moment on Friday, while students were working with clay, modelling their most important personal values and writing brief explanations about what they had created. The room was transformed by peaceful, reflective music; the warmth and connection in the space was palpable.  Students were invited to create something meaningful, unique and beautiful as a way of demonstrating and building their understanding of one of the overarching unit themes of Influence. Thank you to all of our Year 3-6 teachers for embracing these encounters, it is through your respect for the process that these moments become memorable and significant for our students. We look forward to our Prep-Year 2 teachers beginning their work with Traces of Learning towards the end of the term.

I asked some students to tell me about their experiences this week:

Light and Shadow Encounter- Year 3 and 4

"It was about Relationships and Influence, I liked the rainbow disco balls and when we got to make something ourselves"- Jacinta, Year 3

"We learnt about light and shadow and had to make a play about friendship. It was really fun"- George, Year 3

"We made a scene to represent relationships. The light resembles the good things in a relationship, the shadow resembles a broken relationship"- Marygrace, Year 4

 Clay Encounter- Year 5

"I loved that we got to create and sculpt, it was really enjoyable and I loved having the chance to sit there quietly and make something . It wasn't hard to explain the value I chose"- Elenoa, Year 5

"I loved the peacefulness of it. It was really nice to make something special like that and it set me up well for learning this morning"- Scarlett, Year 5

We look forward to many more encounters as part of our partnership with Traces of Learning.
