The Association have introduced a WhatsApp group for our umpires, so if any umpire or team manager would like to join this group to pick up extra umpiring or if you require an umpire to fill in, this is a good spot to ask. Here is the link to join:

Netball was back on Saturday morning at Pedrina Park, and with the return came much-needed rain. The rain certainly did not damper anyone’s spirits with plenty of action on the courts.

All courts were abuzz with laughter and cheering from the junior Grade 3/4s to the senior Year 10-12s. While the odd pass showed that some had enjoyed a break during the holiday season, the overall standard was excellent, with blistering pace and goal shooting. Our senior Vixens team had a very convincing win against Baimbridge, scoring 61-7. The girls all played well with high effort, rotating through positions confidently. Our other Year 10-12 senior team, gave a solid effort, drawing with Monivae. Good passages were frequent, but there will be plenty to work on over the term.

Our Year 7/8 teams, the Firebirds and the Mavericks, started quite well. It is always difficult when you have never played together, but there were some excellent efforts across the board. These teams will improve each week under the guidance of Mrs Haldane, Pepper, and Sophie.

As always, a big thank you to our coaches, parents, umpires and Hamilton Netball Association for making the competition possible.

Cricket

Last Sunday, 12 keen College cricketers headed down to College oval in hope of three wins in a row against Ballarat Grammar on a cold rainy morning. We won the toss and decided to bowl first. Myles Alderman spearheaded the bowling attack with Will Bourke, and it was Will that picked up the first wicket. Myles and Will were on fire and the energy was electric as Myles picked up his second wicket by knocking Ballarat’s number six batsman's off stump out of the ground and making 5-22. Following this Ballarat Grammar began a fight back, and it was Louis Lazzari that took the last three wickets of the innings with a total of 133 runs.

Well done to Will Bourke, three wickets, Myles Alderman, two wickets, Louis Lazzari, three wickets and Isaac Shaw and Liam Dwyer one wicket each. Special mention also to tight bowling from Angus Heazlewood and a dazzling debut from Bailey Clarke taking two catches.

After a short break we started our batting innings in pursuit of 134. After an early wicket, Isaac Shaw and Angus Heazlewood steadied the ship, and Isaac was hitting the boundaries constantly before an unfortunate runout, making 21 runs. After a cracking cover drive for four, Angus was out for 16 after hitting one in the air and Will Legoe was caught behind for 11 runs. Ballarat Grammar kept bowling well and restricting our runs causing our wickets. Only Will Bourke, with 11 runs, was able to provide some resistance with the bat as we were eventually bowled out 50 runs short of the target.

While disappointing not to get the win it was a good performance against a large school and a fun day for everyone. We now prepare to face Monivae College on the 23 March in another First XI match. I would like to thank Mr Toby Hawthorne for coaching, Mrs Dixon for setting the day up, any other helpers on the bbq and Heath Schmidt for preparing the pitch.

Girl's Cricket

Sunday will see our Girls’ First XI take on Monivae in our annual cricket competition, led by Matilda Potter and supported by a very talented group of players.

The match will be a T20 format, playing at the Monivae Oval, starting at 10:00 am.

It would be great to see some College colours in the crowd to cheer our girls on.
