Junior School

ELC

The Piccolo class had a little outing before lunch this week.

As they walked around the school, the children gained a small insight into the broader school community and began getting to know some of the areas and educators that they will continue to see this year and more regularly next year.

House Swimming

A huge thank you to Mrs Patterson, the Junior School staff and the band of parent volunteers whose collective efforts made for a wonderful day at the Hughan Park Olympic Pool. Congratulations to Young House on their victory. It has been a number of years in the wilderness for Young House, but they reclaimed their ‘mojo’ and did a fantastic job in the pool.

Congratulations to our Age Champions:

  • 12/13 Years - Matilda Mercer (Berry) and Arlan MacDonald (Young)
  • 11 Years - Sammie Price (Berry) and Harry Diprose (Learmonth)
  • 10 Years - Harriet Small (Laidlaw) and George Whinney (Learmonth)
  • 9 Years - Rosie Bell (Berry) and Will Diprose (Learmonth)

The South-West Division Swimming Championships will be held on Friday, 28 February, at Aquazone Leisure and Aquatic Centre in Warrnambool. Mrs. Patterson will contact the families of students who have qualified. Swimmers who placed at our House Swimming need to have met qualifying times to be eligible to compete in Warrnambool.

Year 6 Badge Assembly

We presented our Year 6 Class of 2025 with their leadership and House Captaincy badges at a special Assembly on Thursday morning.  School Captains Olivia Bell and Hugo Cameron provided the musical entertainment.  The Year 6 students were given a quote from 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher. The mark of a person is not what they say, but what they do.’

Daniher is an incredibly strong and courageous man who has raised over $115 million for research into MND, the disease he was diagnosed with in 2014.  He continues to fight the odds and refuses to admit that a cure cannot be found for this horrible disease.  I wish the Year 6 students all the very best for their final year of primary school and hope they take some inspiration from Neale Daniher, an amazing Australian.

Star Student certificates were presented to the following students:

Year 5 – Amina Barrera for her positive, have-a-go attitude, always working hard and tackling all activities with enthusiasm.  She has settled so well into Year 5 at Myrniong.

Year 4 - Harry Parfrey in recognition of his great effort and perseverance at the Swimming Carnival, where he demonstrated determination and outstanding performance.

Year 4 - James Cochran, in recognition of his exceptional ability to adapt to his new school environment, demonstrated and upheld all school values during his start and was a valuable addition to the Year 4 classroom.

Year 4 - Lucy Cameron, in recognition of an outstanding start to the year, demonstrates excellent organisation, is a supportive and helpful peer, and actively engages in learning during lessons.

Year 3 - Jack Nagorcka for the positive start he has made to Year 3 and the focused approach he has taken to all tasks.

Year 2 - Jasper Hoffmann for his positive start to Year Two. He has been excellent with carrying out his morning jobs, doing his home reading and changing his book every day.

Year 1 - Rihaan Golwala for his calm, focused and diligent to approach to all learning tasks. What a great start to Year 1!

Compass Award - Johnny Fenton, Level 1

Spotlight on Myrniong Learning

Year 1 - In Mathematics, the class have been learning to represent two-digit numbers on tens frames and record the matching numeral.  They have also been learning to count forwards and backwards all the way to 120.

Chinese classes - 2025 is the year of the Snake. Chinese New Year is happening in February this year. Foundation and Year 1 students are learning the culture of the Chinese New Year through a lantern craft activity. They have enjoyed making lanterns with a partner. They have also focused on counting in Chinese Mandarin.

GANBATTE - The Japanese Art of Always Moving Forward

The second principle of Ganbatte is Embrace Imperfection and Continuous Improvement.  By embracing imperfection and committing to continuous improvement, we can find joy in the journey of growth rather than fixating on an unattainable ideal of perfection.  This mindset allows for creativity, innovation, and personal development without the paralysis of perfectionism.
