Secondary School

Head of Secondary

“Your beginnings may seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.” Job 8:7

Welcome back to a new school year! Early Term One is often a time when our hopes, goals, and dreams are high, as we look forward to what this year might bring. This year at Bayside, we hope the activities, experiences, and learning that Secondary students engage in throughout 2025, will resonate with the heart of God.

It has been exciting to see the positive and enthusiastic start to the year made by all students. New students, including the Year 7’s, are adjusting well and quickly forming friendships, which is a testament to our community. There has been a notable sense of calm balanced with eagerness across Years 7-12. We are proud of the Secondary students' approach taken towards their learning and the standard being upheld. Well done!

We pray for God’s blessing over 2025 and for a productive and enriching year of learning.

God bless,

Mr James Kumnick, Head of Secondary

Uniform

Please make sure that you are familiar with the College’s Uniform Guidelines. It can be found on the BCC Parent Portal under ‘Uniform’. A reminder that school shoes must be closed black full leather, no mesh. This does not apply to PE shoes that are worn on PE days. We are still seeing some Secondary students in black mesh shoes, including new ones!

Every student is expected to wear a school hat during Term One and Four. Please make sure that your child has a College hat that is in good condition and clearly labelled.

If you have any related questions, please refer these to the relevant Secondary Coordinator:

This is a wonderful opportunity to catch up and share our partnership to discuss the progress and plans for best supporting your children's education, both from school and home. Information will be sent out in the next few weeks, regarding how to use our online booking system, Booked (previously PTO), to make time to meet with your children's teachers.

Tuesday 4 March will be a regular school day with appointments after school from 3:40pm to 8pm. Buses will run as normal on this day. Wednesday 5 March appointments will be 10am to 7pm.

VM Food Handlers Certificate

Our Year 11 and selected Year 12 VM students completed their food handlers certificate to prepare them for the many events this year where they will prepare, cook and eat food. It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone concerned and Mrs Austermann and I also completed the certificate.

VM Cafe

Three of our wonderful Year 12 VM students (Hendricus (food serving), Detroit (Point of sale) and Liam (Barista)) helped Mrs Austermann run the first VM Café for the year and it was a huge success. We were able to sell of our food and turned over $300 during recess and lunch. A massive thanks goes to Ulli for organising the food and cooking during these sessions. The VM Café runs once a week to give our students real life experience in the hospitality industry.

VCE Chemistry

Year 11 Chemistry is off to a cracking start! They conducted their first solo practical, looking at melting temperatures of waxes, how their structures differ, and why we see this outcome. We love being able to be as hands on as possible in a lab.

Last First Day of School

Having their last first day of school, it set in for the year 12s that this is their final year. To commemorate this momentous occasion, students received their year 12 Jackets and class of 2025 pins. Please keep these year 12s in your ongoing prayers throughout the year. It’s going to be a great year!
