VCE VET Overview

The Vocational Education Training (VET) in the VCE program combines general VCE studies with hands on competency based vocational training. VCE VET programs are selected from a range of industry areas approved by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.

Successful completion of a VCE VET program provides students with:

• A contribution towards their Australian Tertiary Entrance Ranking (ATAR)*

• A nationally recognised Training Qualification at an appropriate AQF level issued by a Registered Training Organisation.

Delivery of a program is undertaken by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) (TAFE institute, private provider or school) in accordance with industry approved and accredited curriculum and/or training packages.

A Snapshot of VET at DCC:

• VET courses are completed over 2 years, usually by students in Years 10 (additional) 11-12

• VET courses can be undertaken in a wide range of industry and trade areas

• VET courses are suitable for students wishing to develop industry specific or workplace skills

• VET courses are completed at a range of schools and TAFE’s on a Wednesday afternoon • VET courses have additional fees and transport requirements.

Why consider a VET course?

• VET courses are designed to expand opportunities and pathways for senior secondary students and address the skills and employment needs of industry in Victoria

• VET courses allow students to go directly into employment or provide the basis for further vocational training or TAFE study after school

• *VET scored assessment courses can count as one of the primary 4 subjects toward the ATAR and VET non-scored courses may provide a 10% increment toward a student’s ATAR.

Program Cost and Transport Requirements per year:

• VET courses attract an additional cost over and above the normal college fees

• Fees associated for each VET course vary considerably ($1000-$4000) depending on tuition and materials

• VET fees are added to school fees and payable in equal monthly instalments

• Transport from DCC to the VET course is the responsibility of the parent/guardian

• Most VET courses occur on Wednesday afternoons.
