YEAR 10 CURRICULUM

Year 10 is seen as a time for growth where students continue the transition into being young people responsible for their own learning and place in God’s Kingdom, by engaging in a variety of Semester based. The Year 10 curriculum provides a rich and flexible opportunities for students to choose a pathway that is best suited to their unique gifts and talents. Students, teachers and other staff work together to build a community of learners who care, support and celebrate each other in this growth.
Program Structure
The timetable is built around a 10-day cycle. Each day is divided into four zones of 75- minutes each. Most subjects in Year 10 and all VCE subjects consist of 3 x 75-minute classes per week.
The Year 10 curriculum is made up of core and elective subjects.
The compulsory subjects for all Year 10 students are:
The Good Life (Christian Studies), English, Mathematics as well as
One Humanities subject:
• Geography
• Justice and Citizenship
• History
• Politics
• Commerce
• VCE Humanities (subject to Acceleration approval)
One Science subject:
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
• Engineering
• Year 10 Psychology of Critical Thinking
• VCE Science (subject to Acceleration approval)
In addition to the Year 10 course options, electives may also include VCE subjects via Acceleration.
Acceleration
Generally, students study VCE Units 1 and 2 in Year 11, and study VCE Units 3 and 4 in Year 12. Students may apply to accelerate into a VCE subject beyond their Year level under certain circumstances. You will need to carefully consider if acceleration is for you and whether it is possible for the subject you are considering. You can only apply to accelerate in one subject only, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
For students to apply to accelerate, they must have demonstrated the following attributes in the year prior:
• A high level of organisation
• Commendable learning attitude
• Commendable effort
• Consistent academic performance
• A high proportion of ‘A’s and ‘B’s in their school report
