Book Week!
This week is Book Week!!!
This event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and promote books and a love of reading. This year the theme for Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure’. See below for some of the fun this week!
Lunchtime Club and Classroom Activities: There will be lots of fun activities throughout the week for students to enjoy. This includes daily Lunchtime Club activities and some fun activities in class.
Wednesday ‘Book Worm’ Competition: For the first time at BPS, we’re running our very own ‘Book Worm’ competition. Students can take a guess at how many worms are wriggling away in the jar. Don’t worry, they’re the yummy kind! It’s free to enter, and each student can have one guess during Book Week. There will be three jars and three prizes: Prep and Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3, and Grades 4, 5 and 6. Each winning student will take home their jar of worms and a book. Winners will be announced at our whole school assembly on Friday.
Friday Book Week Dress Up: We are bringing back our whole school Book Week dress up day, which we know is very popular! Dress up day will take place on Friday, August 22nd and we encourage everyone to get involved. There will be a whole school assembly taking place on this day for students to showcase their wonderful costumes.
Friday Scotsburn Book Swap: Back by popular demand, we will hold our (now annual) book swap! Students are encouraged to bring in a few pre-loved books that they are willing to pass on to a new family. These will be all laid out in the Japanese Room on Friday afternoon, where students will have the opportunity to select a couple of new pre-loved books to take home and treasure.
Parent Opinion Survey
Earlier today, parents should have received a Compass message inviting them to take part in the parent opinion survey. We invite all Scotsburn parents to provide feedback about their school experience.
The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.
Your opinions as Scotsburn parents are so important to us and we value every bit of feedback that we can receive. Our parent community is such a valued and important aspect of the Scotsburn campus and we truly do cherish our partnership. Using this valued feedback on one way that as a campus we can continue to develop and improve, ensuring that we are providing the best possible education experience for each and every one of our students.
The Compass message should have included log in details and instructions. Should you require any help or assistance, please come in and see Jarrod.
Father’s Day Breakfast - Thursday 4th September
This year at Scotsburn we will be holding a Fathers’ Day breakfast, celebrating all the special father figures in our lives. We would love all of our Scotsburn fathers and special friends to come along to the Scotsburn campus on Thursday 4th September, for a big breakfast and celebration. We will have the old building ready from 8:15am for any guests, with our students doing all the hard work to show appreciation for their dads and special people in their lives!
SC1 Learning Snapshot
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the families for their support to help celebrate our 100 days of school dress up day. We certainly had a lot of fun! Here are some photos of the old, the brighter and the spottier children. Thank you for helping make it a memorable day for them.
Last week we also had a visit from some of Damascus Year 8 English students. This was a continuation of the program from earlier this year, where the students chose a picture story book and then designed some activities that linked to their stories. The students worked together to create some masterpieces. These are on display in the classroom. We had some familiar faces for the children in this group. Bethany and James certainly enjoyed visiting their primary school and seeing their old friends.
Just a reminder on Thursday 21st we have our excursion to Sovereign Hill. Students need to bring their school backpack with fruit, snack, lunch, and a water bottle. As it is an outdoor museum. A school jacket is encouraged. Full school uniform. Students will need to be dropped off and collected from the Buninyong Campus. Please meet in the courtyard at 8:45. We will return from our excursion in time for normal pick up time. You can collect your child from the courtyard at the conclusion of school. We are looking forward to a great day.
Have a great week,
Chelsea and Beth
SC2 Learning Snapshot
Well done SC2 for navigating a big week last week with Mr Morgan away ill. All students did a terrific job working their way through each day with slightly different routines and structures - it is awesome to see the maturing and teamwork of the class really shine during these times.
Whilst Mr Morgan was away, there was still some amazing learning happening. In Maths, students have been beginning to look at the tricky concept of place value with decimals, including rounding up and down to the nearest tenth, hundredth and even thousandth! Thankfully we have been lucky enough to have Erin Dexter join us in SC2 on her two-week university placement, to teach these tricky topics.
As you would have read earlier in the week on Compass, next week is a big one for SC2. Mr and Mrs Morgan are away on long service leave, and our Grade 5s and 6s have their Melbourne Camp in the second half of the week. Below is a reminder of the arrangements for each day next week:
Monday 25th August: Regular classroom schedule – Erin, Mrs Murphy teaching in SC2, with an Education Support staff member.
Tuesday 26th August: Regular classroom schedule – Erin, Mr Georgiou teaching in SC2, with an Education Support staff member.
Wednesday 27th August: Grade 5/6 students head off on Melbourne Camp – meet at Buninyong campus at 7:45am – look out for Mr Conlan and Raquel
Grade 3/4 students join SC1 – will be working with Mrs Connor, Erin Dexter and an Education Support staff member.
Thursday 28th August: Grade 5/6 students on Melbourne Camp
Grade 3/4 students join SC1 – will be working with Mrs Murphy, Erin Dexter and an Education Support staff member.
Friday 29th August: Grade 5/6 students return from Melbourne Camp (approx. 3:15pm at Buninyong campus)
Grade 3/4 students join SC1 – will be working with Mrs Murphy, Erin Dexter and an Education Support staff member.
Please pop in and see me this week should you have any questions or concerns around these arrangements. Our Grade 5 and 6 students certainly are looking forward to their Melbourne experience!
Have another amazing week,
Jarrod

Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
