The Celebration of Learning

The Celebration of Learning event is a special event on our annual BPS calendar where all families are invited to visit classrooms and specialist learning spaces to see and experience what students have been working on so far this year. It is one of our key ways of reporting and communicating student progress to parents and carers, giving you the opportunity to see your child’s learning first-hand. This is a chance for your child to proudly share their work, talk about the projects and activities they have enjoyed, and celebrate their effort, growth, and achievement as part of our school community.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

Last week was National Science Week and our students at BPS were certainly provided with some wonderful opportunities to take part in throughout the week either in STEM class or throughout the lunch breaks.  Many thanks to Ms. Middlin and Mr. Smith for organising these activities, and of course to our fabulous educational support team members who ran activities for Science Week at lunch time club- if was a fun week for all involved!

The Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee

This week our year 3-6 students across both campuses will be taking part in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee.

This is an online contest run across Australia for students in years 3-8.

Students who are successful at the School Round level will progress through to the State/Territory level, followed by the National level.

If you have a student in year 3-6, you should have received an email with details about the contest, along with a link for you to provide your consent.  Students cannot take part without parent/caregiver consent.  Please contact Nicole Phillips if you have not received an email with this information nicole.phillips@education.vic.gov.au

Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

Students who are participating in the Ballarat Young Authors’ Program engaged in their second workshop on August 7th.

The workshop day was held at our Scotsburn Campus, hosted by ourselves and Dana St Primary School. The theme of the workshop was ‘Page to the Stage – Stories That Come Alive’.

Students had the opportunity to participate in four sessions throughout the day with two local authors, a screenwriter and a songwriter.  There was something for everyone and students thoroughly enjoyed their day.

A huge thanks to our guest presenters, Mark Muldoon, Michael Henry, Elyse Hunt and Nicholas Wetemans for generously sharing their time and expertise with our students.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK

Book Week is here! This special week is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and promote books and the joy of reading. This year’s theme is ‘Book an Adventure’, and we’ve got plenty of exciting activities planned.

Each day, students can join in Lunchtime Club activities and enjoy the Library during class visits and at lunch. For the first time at BPS, we’re also running our very own ‘Book Worm’ competition. Students can take a guess at how many yummy worms are in the jar. It’s free to enter, and everyone gets one guess during the week. There are three jars and three prizes: Prep–Grade 1, Grades 2–3, and Grades 4–6. Each winner will take home their jar of worms and a book. Winners will be announced at our whole school assembly on Friday.

We’re also excited to bring back our much-loved Book Week dress up day! This will take place on Friday, August 22nd, with a whole school assembly for students to showcase their amazing costumes. We can’t wait to see the creativity and fun on display.

More from 100 days of Prep:

Last Friday, our Prep students marked a very special milestone - their 100th day of school!

To celebrate, we had a wonderful day filled with fun activities, smiles, and laughter.

The children looked absolutely fantastic dressed up as “100 year olds,” with creative granny and grandpa costumes complete with glasses, walking sticks, curlers, and cardigans. It was heart-warming to see the effort families put into helping the Preps look the part, and the students loved stepping into character for the day.

We enjoyed a variety of “100 themed” activities, including counting challenges, craft, and writing about what life might be like when they are 100 years old. The day was a wonderful celebration of all the learning, friendships, and achievements the students have made in their first 100 days at school.

Congratulations to all our Preps on reaching this milestone - what a fabulous start to your school journey.
