Book Week is fast approaching and we have compiled a range of activities and competitions to satisfy our Middle School students. See the flyer below for more details. Forms for these activities can be collected from the Middle School library during Book Week.
Please note that Thursday is the traditional Book Week dress up day! Students will vote for the best dressed in their home room and collect house points for every one who comes dressed up. Please note that if students decide not to dress up, then they must be in full school uniform. A gold coin donation is requested and the funds raised will be donated to Shepherdson College, our sister school.
Last week we promised some easy, sustainable costume tips- here they are.
Scour your wardrobe for items you already have: your school blazer makes a quick Hogwarts student, a striped t-shirt can turn you into Wally!
Op shops are your friend: Look for second-hand items and consider repurposing. A faux fur vest, can turn you into the friendly lion with ease.
Keep it simple- use pins, belts, scarves and a hot glue gun instead of sewing and creating from scratch.
Save the boxes from your deliveries- these will make a quick mask, a sword or a great Minecraft head!
Swap costumes- check with siblings, friends and in your community on local BSS groups for free ready-made options.
Choose a low-fuss character if that’s more your style (although we encourage everyone to just go for it!). Think Percy Jackson (orange t-shirt), Zac Power (black clothes, toy gadget), Matilda (blue dress and a book).
We can’t wait to see your creations! If you have any questions or concerns, please email Jodie Warner library@overnewton.vic.edu.au
