Year Three

What an incredible week we've had celebrating the power of literature and the magic of storytelling! Our Book Week theme, "Book an Adventure," has taken our students on extraordinary journeys through complex narratives, diverse perspectives, and thought-provoking themes that challenge and inspire young minds.
Reading:
In reading, Year 3 learners dove into rich mentor texts that combine beautiful illustrations with meaningful stories. Each class explored rich mentor texts like Beegu by Alexis Deacon and Imagine by Alison Lester, discussing how illustrations and vocabularies work together to create deeper meaning.
Moreover, our students have been developing essential 21st-century literacy skills as they learned to read, analyse, and understand news articles! Over the past few weeks, students mastered the art of identifying main ideas, recognising supporting details, and understanding topic-specific vocabulary in real-world texts.
Writing:
In writing, our classrooms have been buzzing with creative energy as students embarked on an exciting text innovation journey! Throughout our text innovation unit, students engaged in the complete writing process: Planning and Brainstorming, Drafting and Experimenting, Peer Collaboration and Feedback, and Editing and Publishing.
Our classrooms have transformed into hubs of inquiry and explanation as students mastered the art of writing clear explanation texts! This unit has been particularly exciting as students combined their growing knowledge across technology with sophisticated writing techniques, incorporating topic-specific vocabulary to create truly engaging explanations.
Maths:
In Maths, Year 3 students began their division journey through hands-on sharing activities and concrete materials. Students used counters, unifixs, and everyday objects to physically share collections into equal groups. They discovered the close connection between division and multiplication and learned to record their thinking using simple number sentences.
Our mathematics classrooms have been alive with rich mathematical discussions as students explored multiple strategies for solving division problems! This approach has empowered every student to find methods that make sense to them while building deep understanding of what division really means and why different strategies work.
