Athletics Carnival 2025
On Tuesday we gathered at Jack Eddy oval for our annual Whole School Athletics Carnival. The atmosphere was fantastic right from the start. It was wonderful to see so many students not only competing in events but also supporting their friends and cheering on their Houses. And seeing the Year 12 students all dressed up in their costumes is always a highlight!
Unfortunately, the weather turned against us as the day progressed. After monitoring the conditions closely, we made the difficult decision to call off the remainder of the carnival at lunchtime due to safety concerns. While it’s always disappointing not to finish the day as planned, the wellbeing of our students and staff must come first.
Despite the shortened program, the morning was full of highlights. Records were broken by Marlon Micalizzi and Zarah Brielle Mendoza both in the Javelin, and the level of participation was something to be proud of. I would like to thank staff for their organisation and support, and our students for the energy and positivity they brought to the carnival.
Students who registered for events will have the opportunity to complete the events they originally signed up for on Wednesday 3 September.
Regardless, Tuesday showed once again the strength of our community, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way our students represented themselves and their Houses.
Campaspe Basketball
It was a huge day on the court for St Joes on Monday, with our Year 7 and Intermediate (9&10) teams showing off incredible teamwork, determination and skill at the Campaspe Basketball Competition.
Year 7 Girls
Our Year 7 girls started strong with two comfortable wins before facing Rochester in the final. In a tough, physical contest, the girls dug deep to secure a solid win and take home the title!
The standout players of the day in offence were Emily Smith, Jolie Masters, Harper Maddison, Maisie Stevens, Abi Nevin and in defence Alannah McKenner, Emma Moyle, Charlotte Christie, and Mckenna Farley.
Overall it was a great day and the team should be proud of how they played.

Year 7 Boys
Our Year 7 boys started off strong against the two Kyabram teams, focusing on key points that we wanted to build on offensively and defensively for the tournament. Our post players had a strong start, owning under the basket looking for passes and rebounding missed shots of team mates to get on the scoreboard early in both games.
The two games prior put us in good confidence heading into our Grand Final game against Rochester. The boys started strong on the defensive end, pressuring the ball in the full court, opening some early transition points on the board.
Ours boys maintained this intensity for the full 24 minutes, sharing the points around and working together to get the team win.
Overall, for the day our boys played a team game, helping each other learn and develop to become a strong group going into the next stage.

Intermediate Girls
The Year 9/10 Intermediate girls basketball team had a fantastic day, winning all three of their games with great teamwork and determination. The girls showed impressive skill and spirit on the court, representing our school proudly. Better players for the day were Bella Hillier, Kate Head, Tia Knight, Charli Ryan and Addi Power. Congratulations to the team on their undefeated team effort!

Intermediate Boys
The Intermediate Boys proved too strong on the day, securing three commanding victories over Echuca College, Rochester and Kyabram in the final to take home the title. From the outset, the team set the tone with slick ball movement and a high-tempo offence, consistently breaking through opposition defences. Their intensity was matched at the other end of the court, where disciplined defence shut down scoring opportunities. Silas Toll made an excellent contribution stepping into the line-up, delivering key plays when it mattered most. Meanwhile, Mitch Sutton, Taj Fleming and Van Lowry were standout performers in attack, combining skill and strength to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Netball Victoria Championships
What an incredible day for St Joseph’s College with 9 girls’ teams from Years 7–12 competing in the Netball Victoria School Championships in Bendigo last week!
Across the courts, our students showcased teamwork, determination and plenty of skill. With mixed results throughout the day, every team gave it their all and represented our College with pride.
A big congratulations to all involved – what a fantastic day of netball!
