Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Thank you to everyone for their support and participation in last week's annual Book Parade and activities.  We are always blown away by all the amazing costumes and greatly appreciate the role families play in making this a highlight of our school year.

Thank you also for your support of our Book Fair.  As a result, we raised $480 towards new books for our library.  Many thanks to Nicole and Megan for their organisation and to Angela for giving a very special author talk to our students regarding her recently published picture

book, Mavis: The Little Plane Spotter.  The history and research that went into writing the book was fascinating!  Thank you also to Heather, who has put together a lovely display of photos in the student foyer, and to all staff for their contribution to a great day of celebration!  Tomorrow, the fun continues after assembly, when we will hold a short Book Week Quiz.

Time to say goodbye...  As our school continues to go through a gradual refresh and transformation, this week we have been faced with the difficult decision as to what to do with our much loved Tree of Life mural.

Over the years, the mural has featured in many of our school documents and has been a greatly admired feature of our school grounds.  Sadly, the mural has deteriorated over recent years, and is now beyond repair.  The creators of this masterpiece, Emily and Naomi, have decided it is time for a change! While we will all be sad to see the mural come down, ideas for new mural designs and installations are being hatched and students are encouraged to share their ideas with their art teachers!

Friday morning assemblies will resume tomorrow, with a special presentation from Year 6. We look forward to seeing you there!

From Monday 18th August to Friday 19th September, families will have the opportunity to participate in the the annual Parent Opinion Survey, offered by the Department of Education.  The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.  Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. Further information will be sent out next week.

We are currently seeking CASUAL STAFF to work in the OSHC Before, After School and Vacation Care programs.  Successful applicants will hold a Diploma in School Age Education and Care or Early Childhood Education and Care, have a current Working with Children Check, First Aid and Driving Licence.  Please contact the school for further information or apply in writing to mount.beauty.ps@education.vic.gov.au
