Principal's message

rs Hello Alvie families,

Firstly I want to apologise, it appears last fortnight's newsletter didnt't get pushed out on Compass properly, I believe you would have recieved this yesterday. I think this is a glitch in the system with Ross dropping off Compass. I think we have fixed this now!

It’s hard to believe we are already more than halfway through the term! The pace of learning and activity has been steady, and it’s been wonderful to see students embracing so many opportunities to grow, learn, and celebrate together.

Book Week was a highlight, with our dress-ups showcasing the creativity and joy of our students (and families!). “Snuggle Up with a Book Day” was also a great success, what a treat to see children finding comfort, adventure, and imagination between the pages of their favourite stories.

Looking ahead, we warmly invite all fathers and special people to join us for our Father’s Day Breakfast from 8:15am on the morning of Thursday 4th September. It’s always a lovely way to gather as a community and celebrate these important relationships.

Families of our younger learners can also look forward to information coming soon about the much-anticipated P–2 Sleepover, always a highlight on the calendar!

This week, I have challenged students to lean into making mistakes, reminding them that this is where real learning happens. Mistakes aren’t setbacks, they’re stepping stones. Parents can support this at home by sharing times when they’ve made mistakes themselves and modelling calm, positive ways to recover. When children see mistakes as a normal part of life rather than something to be feared, they build resilience, persistence, and confidence in their own abilities. These learning behaviours may earn an Alvie student a green leaf for grit! It is fantastic to see how our tree is flourishing in the multi space. Teachers have been focussing on giving out green leaves and accompanying them with values focussed praise. Check out below how many students recieved large leaves at assembly this week!

Have a wonderful, restorative weekend everyone!

Lisa Peirce
