Mathematics
We have been building on our learning in geometry by exploring the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects. Students have been learning to identify sides, corners, edges, and faces, and to describe the differences between flat shapes and solid objects. Our lessons have included sorting and classifying shapes, as well as creating 3D objects from nets, which helped us see how flat 2D shapes can be folded into 3D forms. Next week, we will begin exploring measurement looking at length.
Reading
In reading, students have been focusing on developing their fluency during reading rotations. They have been practising reading with appropriate pace, expression, and accuracy, which helps them better understand what they are reading.
Writing
In Writing, students have recently completed some fantastic information reports. Each student chose a sport of interest and researched it using books, fact files, and the internet, before drafting their reports with content-specific vocabulary and clear, organised paragraphs. They should be proud of the effort and resilience they showed in putting information into their own words. For the remainder of the term, we will shift our focus to writing procedures, where students will learn how to give clear, step-by-step instructions for others to follow.
A reminder:
As part of our upcoming writing unit on procedures, students will be taking part in a range of fun, hands-on activities in class. These will include making milkshakes, creating resin art, and air clay modelling.
To help us keep all students safe, we ask that you please let us know if your child has any allergies or sensitivities to ingredients or materials that may be used during these activities (for example, dairy, food colourings, or resin materials).
These activities will begin in week 8. If your child does have any allergies, please come and speak to either Mr. Rennie or Ms. McAsey before we begin.
2/3 Student Achievers
Jack H (2/3M):
Jack received the Student Achiever award for resilience and responsibility. He worked hard on his information report on boxing focusing on his personal writing goal. Jack also showed a positive attitude by taking on feedback to improve his work.
