Last Wednesday we had a lovely time at the Curriculum day program. Our program included making stress balls, cooking, skipping comps, Hama beading, gymnastic concerts, soccer shoot outs and making our own tacos.
A group of students cooked our morning tea of Puftaloons (pan fried scones) with jam and cream which was a big hit and devoured in no time. See our noticeboard for this very tasty yet very easy recipe. In the afternoon a spread of taco ingredients were laid out and students were able to build their own tacos. With a number of students having never tried them previously and then coming back for thirds it’s safe to say this was also a winner.
We worked our fingers and our brains problem solving the best way to make stress balls with rice and balloons. After much experimentation and persistence we finally found the best method. This particular activity was taken from our student activity suggestion posters which was put out for children to record ideas at the beginning of term.
Many students were putting their jump rope skills to the test and as a whole it has gone gang busters at OSHC. Tying in with the early years doing ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ the student’s desire to practice their skipping has sparked a new found excitement for the activity across all year levels. To keep up with the growing amount of keen jumpers we will be looking to purchase some more skipping ropes for the program.
Tea Tuesdays – Another student suggestion off the back of a popular tasting of fresh mint tea, with mint from our garden. One of our educators, Lucy, has been facilitating the tastings as a self-confessed lover of tea herself. So far they have tried lemon and honey and peppermint. Next week’s flavour will be Camomile.
